This material was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same title.
This exhibition was conceived on the occasion of YOKOO’s artist talk at a pre-event for the opening of the Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto. When YOKOO was asked his impression on the city of Kumamoto, he answered that the city was similar to Buenos Aires, the city he had never seen. This episode was reflected in the title of the exhibition to demonstrate the artist’s inspiration which is an important source of his creative activity.
A talk session between YOKOO and Daniel. A. Ploski (Ambassador of the Argentine Republic) with Hiroshi MINAMISHIMA (director of the museum) is available in English and Japanese. Curators of the museum (Haruko TOMISAWA, Yoshiko HONDA, Akane TAKEDA, Risa YAMAMURO, Kodama KANAZAWA, Nana IZU) write their thoughts on the artist and his body of work as letters addressed to the artist. An essay by MINAMISHIMA is available in Japanese. A selected bibliography, a selected biography and a list of works are also available.
