This video features the talk given by renowned art critic-cum-historian-cum-curator Dr Gao Minglu at the Asia Art Archive on 22 July 2003. In the one-and-a-half-hour seminar, Dr Gao introduces the concept of "Chinese Maximalism", a term he coined at the exhibition Chinese Maximalism first held in Beijing in March 2003, that summarised the art practice among a number of contemporary Chinese 'abstract' artists. Works by Ding Yi, Hong Hao, Yang Zhenzhong, Geng Jianyi, Zhu Jinshi, Xu Hongmin, Lu Qing, Li Huasheng, Wu Yiming, and Zhu Xiaohe complement the discussion.
