Dounumber's Tasveer is a series of photo zines based in Lahore, Pakistan. Launched in 2023, it embodies a profound sense of capturing complexities and contradictions that are often hidden from view.
Tasveer provides a sanctuary for subaltern voices and encourages a confrontation with established structures of power. By legitimizing the Pakistani visual lexicon through the rhizomatic publication form, Tasveer creates a tangible visual archive that elevates the experiences of those consigned to the margins of society.
The series' use of the camera as a tool of both reflection and subversion enacts a repositioning of the simulacra that have long dominated the representation of the global South. By repositioning simulacra through the lens of the camera, Tasveer is able to question the constructed nature of reality and expose the social, political, and cultural discourses that shape our world and provoke us to rethink our relationship with the world. Through popup curation and dissemination, Tasveer aims to spread this vision far and wide.
