This is a brief overview of the Triennial with information of the curatorial team (HOU Hanru, Hans Ulrich OBRIST, and GUO Xiaoyan) and its associate activties, especially the Delta Laboratory (D-Lab), as well as introductions of selected participating artists of D-Labs 1 and 2 (up to March 2005). The Delta Laboratory (D-Lab) is a series of workshops with participation of international practitioners working in fields of architecture, urban planning and contemporary art, held prior to the opening of the Second Guangzhou Triennial in November 2005. The aim is to create a platform to generate debate and to rethink issues such as modernisation, globalisation, alternative forms of economy, environmental protection, migrant labour force, memory and archiving, etc., in the rapidly developing region of the Pearl River Delta, as well as in other parts of the Asia Pacific region. This publication only cover the D-Lab up to March 2005.
Other participating artists of D-Lab 1 (28 Nov - 24 Dec 2004) and D-Lab 2 (4 Mar - 29 Mar 2005) include Rem Koolhaas/OMA, Doug Aitken, Joseph Grima / Multiplicity, Evelyne Jouanno, Mathieu Briand, Sefano Boeri / Multiplicity, Waling Boers / Buro Friedrich.
