'Remembering İstanbul, the two-day conference focused on the history of the İstanbul Biennial, took place in İstanbul Bilgi University, Dolapdere Campus. Manifesting the first public part of 12th İstanbul Biennial, the conference hosted artists and curators of previous İstanbul Biennials.

'Beral Madra, Vasıf Kortun, René Block, Paolo Colombo, Yuko Hasegawa, Dan Cameron, Hou Hanru and WHW (What, How and for Whom) were participated in the conference together with the co-curators of the 12th edition of the İstanbul Biennial, Adriano Pedrosa and Jens Hoffmann. Sarkis, Ayşe Erkmen, Gülsün Karamustafa and Ali Kazma from Turkey, who have participated in the previous biennials and have witnessed its development responded to the presentations of the curators.

'Over the last two decades the İstanbul Biennial has become one of the most prominent international biennials due to the consistently unique character of its exhibitions. The curators who have organised the exhibitions in the past, from South to North, from East to West, from emerging and established curators to curatorial collectives has given presentations, remembering their experiences and providing their afterthoughts on their respective biennial exhibitions as well as the current state of the biennial exhibition format itself.

'For the conference, organised in collaboration with İstanbul Bilgi University, Department of Cultural Management, a book will be prepared with all contributions and selected installation visuals, to be published in September 2011, at the opening of the 12th İstanbul Biennial. The 12th İstanbul Biennial, organised by the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts will take place between 17 September and 13 November 2011, and is sponsored by Koç Holding.'
