This publication was created on occasion of the solo touring exhibition by Vivan Sundaram from December 2011 to March 2012, in New Delhi and Mumbai. The exhibition featured sculptural garments made under collaboration with fashion designer Pratima Pandey. The exhibition also incorporated live performances presenting the artist's fashion works in the format of a fashion show.
'Gagawaka: Making Strange' consists of over forty five garments created by the artist, presented by mannequins and in the live show, by actors and models. Garments were fabricated with a vast range of detritus and merchandise such as diapers, kitchen scrubs, tampons, tyre-tubes, shoe-top linings, bras and assorted medical accoutrements.
Includes essays, artist biography and bibliography.
A supplementary DVD under the same title is also available in the library.
