Work Presented at Snake Charmer

One of Roberto Chabet's works in 'Snake Charmer', an exhibition by Yolanda Perez and Chabet, which Chabet curated at West Gallery from 28 October to 10 November 1994.

Chabet wrote, 'Incorporating household objects such as mirrors, tables, lamps, and shelves, the works explore the varieties of fluctuating realities that the commonplace objects undergo in the thinking, making, and perceiving of the art-object. The exhibition likens the transformative processes to the snake charmer's feat, all at once fraught with magic, peril and sheer ludicrousness.'

This particular work by Chabet features a plaster cast of the artist's face, which is reflected on a mirror attached to a plywood shelf. The cast was made by artist Agnes Arellano. Both Arellano and Perez were students of Chabet at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.
