Entitled 'ART FOR SALE: Intimacy between Aesthetics and Economy', this edition of Kitakyushu Biennale is an attempt to explore the relationship between the three fields of art (aesthetics), love (intimacy) and economy. 'Intimacy' and 'economy' both refer to the give-and-take relationship in human society. As said by Matake Makiko, curator of the Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art, 'Art activities are (therefore) also to be considered as a series of reciprocal relationships between those who express and others who appreciate. Sometimes there are cases in which these positions themselves are exchanged...this exhibition is a modest attempt to search for the compact and pure form of exchange in contemporary art.' Individual texts accompanies images of works. With curator's note, artist biographies and bibliography.
