For the exhibition '85 New Wave: The Birth of Chinese Contemporary Art held at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, over 10,000 items of documentation in the form of letters, manuscripts, sketches, photos, and rare videos are being researched to contextualize the works in the exhibition. The present volume published to accompany the exhibition catalogue features documentation of works by artists Gu Wenda, Wu Shanzhuan and Xu Bing. Artist interviews and manuscripts are also provided in the book.
