This publication examines Ai Weiwei's iconoclastic ceramics, a body of work critical to understanding his wider, cross-disciplinary practice. Published in conjunction with the touring exhibition organised by Arcadia University Art Gallery in Glenside, Pennsylvania, the book includes four commissioned essays. Philip Tinari discusses the place of ceramics in Ai Weiwei's oeuvre while Dario Gamboni situates the artist's strategies within the legacy of iconoclasm. Stacey Pierson places Ai's appropriations of historical vessels and recent porcelain works in the tradition of Chinese ceramics, and Glenn Adamson takes a closer look at his ongoing series of ancient vases emblazoned with Coca-Cola logos. The essays appear in both English and Chinese. In addition, this volume includes the first complete English translation of an interview with the artist originally published in White Cover Book (Baipishu, 1995). Artist and contributor biographies are included.
