This catalogue was published on the occasion of Cai Guoqiang’s solo exhibition at the Iwaki City Art Museum in 1994. The exhibition was in fact a result of the artist’s stay (he had moved his studio there since November 1993) in the city. Works created were made of local materials and influenced by numerous exchanges with Iwaki citizens. Since Iwaki is located on the rim of the Pacific Ocean, the exhibits featured here relate largely to boat, fish and the ocean. Also included in this publication are images and brief descriptions of Cai’s other projects completed during the period 1989-1994. Artist’s biography is provided.
