Excerpt from Inward Gazes: Documentaries of Chinese Performance Art 2012, The Macao Museum of Art, Macau S.A.R., 2012, p. 56: 'From 1st July to 30th September 2009, we undertook an artist residency in Huntly. The subject is about James Legge, a sinologist and missionary in Hong Kong who was born in Huntly. The project is composed of three stages: Legge's treasure hunt, Legge's flat, and Parade. This video is about the parade. The climax of the parade has both the symbolic representations of a mourning ceremony and a carnival. A traditional Chinese mourning ceremony with Scottish dance and Scottish music seemed strange and unexpected in a Scottish town. Some elements of the parade have different meanings in Chinese and western culture. The performance emphasised the misunderstanding of regional culture in a foreign context in the time of globalisation; where the misunderstanding becomes sublimated through the self-involvement of foreign people.'
The performance took place in Huntly, Scotland, United Kingdom.
