Catalogue of Choe U-Ram's solo exhibition at Mori Art Museum in 2006. Born in Seoul in 1970, Choe produces unique works that explore the boundaries between fine art and science, particularly robotics. He favours flowers and insect motifs, and by adding machine parts, sensors, and light bulbs, he gives the impression of having invented new life forms. The exhibition showcases Choe's mystical organisms along with the encyclopedia-like descriptions that he has written for them.
'This, the fourth in the series of MAM PORJECTS that highlights the work of promising young artists, focuses on the fascinating work of Seoul-based artist, Choe U-Ram.
The structures that characterize Choe U-ram's works exist in a hinterland between fine craftsmanship, engineering and art. Each one is based on an evolutionary logic that unfolds in the form, mechanics and movement of each piece. A robot is a machine designed to carry out a particular task, but these are more complex works of creation that also have an iconic, symbolical significance, alluding not only to the natural but also to the man-made world. In Choe's universe the two are brought together within a plausible imaginary construct; anything is possible there because it is governed by intelligent design rather than by natural selection.'

Images of Choe's organisms are accompanied by descriptions written by the artist. Artist biography is also included in the catalogue.
