This catalogue accompanies the exhibition of the same title organised by Kunst Arzt, Kyoto in 2014. Includes an essay with the title "Monogram," Artworks and Law by Mami Iemoto (Associate Professor of Law from Setsuna University). Iemoto also writes descriptions for each exhibited work, explaining the legal issues that were brought to the artist, curator, or museum when exhibiting the work. Colour plates of works and brief artists' biographies are provided.
As written by Okamoto Mitsuhiro, one of the exhibited artist as well as director of Kunst Arzt, 'the show consists of "monogram" motif art-works which were rejected by Louis Vuitton. Why so many artists use it, even Louis Vuitton carefully takes care of their images? Why Louis Vuitton hates these works, even they support "appropriation" artists? The show looks like a suggestive fake Louis Vuitton shop, but with "fair use" specialist comments, the show gives a chance to rethink about the artist rights and the power of art.'- excerpt from the back cover of the catalogue.
