Excerpt from Inward Gazes: Documentaries of Chinese Performance Art 2012, The Macao Museum of Art, Macau S.A.R., 2012, p. 79: 'The interactive group work named The Emergency Mode was set up in the autumn of 2008. The performance was to pass the Uyger food Nang in relay so as to experience the tradition by ourselves. We attempted to convey the change in the living habits of the minority in process of the urbanisation in Urumqi. We suffered the weakening human relationship, which could be experienced naturally through the body languages of the individuals here.
In 2012, residents have disappeared from the Yamalike Mountain located on the outskirts of Urumqi, and it's now no more than a slum area. The artificial forest will continue to grow here. The artists, who ran and created the work busily throughout the mountains in that autumns, have disappeared just like the slums, and I also do not know where they are now in the world.'
The performance took place on the Yamalike Mountain, Urumqi, China.
