Mi Zeng, painter, calligrapher, poet and art theorist is now emerging as one of the most distinquished exponents of the 'modern literati school' of contemporary Chinese ink painting. This school of painting has, since the late 1980's successfully resisted the pressures posed by the popularity of the Western modernist trends and fashionable realism of modern Chinese oil painting.
