Correspondence exchanged between the Director of Institute of Traditional Cultures, University of Madras, and artist Jyoti Bhatt, the Secretary of the Baroda Group of Artists at that time. Various arrangements regarding the exchange of information between the two institutes — Institute of Traditional Cultures, Madras and Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda were discussed through series of letters.

The first letter was written by the Director of the Institute of Traditional Cultures, University of Madras, on 24 June 1959.
The second letter, dated 22 July 1959, is an unsigned, draft reply from Jyoti Bhatt.
The third letter, dated 23 July 1959, is a reply to Jyoti Bhatt from the Director of the Institute of Traditional Cultures, University of Madras. This letter is appended by a form.

Context

The exhibition 'Baroda Group of Artists: Fourth Show' was held at Jehangir Art Gallery, Bombay, from 3 to 10 December 1959. The show comprised of around fifty exhibits of paintings, drawings, and graphics. Participating artists included Jyoti Bhatt, N.S. Bendre, Farokh Contractor, Bhupendra Desai, Prafull Dave, Prabha Dongre, Kishori Kaul, Padmini Manerikar, Ratan Parimoo, Vinod Shah, G.R. Santosh, K.G. Subramanyan, G.M. Sheikh, Himmat Shah, Haku Shah, Bhupendra Gandhi, Gulshan Khan, Indu Patwa, Chintamani Bhale, Himat Khatsuria, Kumud Patel, Mansing Chhara, Naina Dalal, Narendra Amin, Natu Patel, Raghav Kaneria, Ramesh Naik, Ratanchand Surana, Shailesh Dave, Shashikala Sawant, Triloke Kaul, Vinodray Patel, I.N. Talat, and N.G. Bhanwadia.

The Baroda Group of Artists was formed in the year 1956 by G.R. Santosh, Ratan Parimoo, K.G. Subramanyan, Prabha Dongre, Shanti Dave, K. Patel, Triloke Kaul, Vinay Trivedi, N.S. Bendre, Balkrishna Patel, Jyoti Bhatt, Prafull Dave, and Ramesh Pandya. The Group had exhibited in various cities like Bombay, Ahmedabad, and Srinagar between the mid-1950s and mid-1960s. Members of the Group changed over the years.
