This monograph of Tyeb Mehta is an attempt to explain a lifetime of work by the artist and to tap into the workings of the artist's mind. As said by Arun Vadehra in the introductory text, 'For more than half a century now he (Tyeb) has worked compulsively with an urgency and uncompromising spirit that never fails to amaze... Tyeb belongs to a generation of artist that made art in vitual isolation, painting only for itself. There was no art audience or market to speak of, save a select few, for the better part of his career. The conversations that emerge in his paintings are therefore deeply personal relections of self and the other - a personal so rooted that it has the power to transcend to a universal truth.' The monograph also includes poems by Prabodh Parikh (in Hindi and English), chronology of the artist, list of selected exhibitions and bibliography.
