A Cultural Conjuncture: Art in the Contemporary

This document is an unedited draft on the basis of which art critic Geeta Kapur delivered a lecture in a conference titled 'Antinomies of Art and Culture after the 20th century: Modernity, Postmodernity, Contemporaneity' at the University of Pittsburgh on 1 November 2004. The conveners of the conference were Terry Smith, Okwui Enwezor, and Nancy Condee.

The lecture presentation was accompanied with film clips from Anand Patwardhan's Father Son and Holy War: A Film on Men, Religion and Violence, 1994, and Amar Kanwar's A Season Outside, 1998.
