This publication features an essay on artistic intervention in Chinese society by Wang Chunchen, the winner of the 2009 CCAA Art Critic Award. Numerous art districts in Beijing have been demolished amidst rapid urbanisation. Wang states that because of little interaction between the artworks created in these districts and the society at large, art was never given serious consideration in urban planning or ideology. His essay looks at the interventions artists have undertaken to close the gap between art and Chinese society. With bibliography.
