Part of a DVD series produced by China Institute featuring intimate discussions with artists, curators, critics and art historians about contemporary Chinese art from the perspectives of society and politics, the relationship between contemporary Chinese and Western culture, and the bridge between traditional and contemporary Chinese art.
Sculptor and performance artist Lin Yilin co-founded the Big Tail Elephant Group in 1990 in response to rapid urban development, consumerism, traffic, and sex culture in Southern China. His work examines the complex relationship between human beings and architecture, the materialization of the body, and the interaction between human beings and nature.
This is a video recording of Lin Yilin in conversation with France Pepper, Director of Arts & Culture Programs at China Institute, on 18 March 2008. DVD contains an English and Mandarin version (1:36:00 mins), and English version (55:25 mins). Includes artist bio.
