This catalogue is from the joint exhibition 'Deal' by two ‘British-Chinese’ artists Susan Pui San LOK and Mayling TO. Both artists deal with their own identities being British born Chinese with connections to Hong Kong. This exhibition has relevance with the handover of Hong Kong back to China in 1997 with works such as ‘Death of Hong Kong’ by Mayling TO. ‘… now it’s possible for artists like Susan and Mayling to play around with identity in a way which not only plays on their own identities as artists… but also, actually, on all sorts of cultural references which they feel comfortable with, and have the authority, to play with. And I think that possibility is the difference – that confidence.’ – Gilane Tawadros. Also included in the catalogue are biographies of both artists.
