'HERE NOT THERE draws together seven diverse visual arts practitioners of Asian origin or descent. It is not an exhibition showcasing contemporary Asian art, or primarily concerned with Eastern influences on Australian art practices... this project is intrinsically about appearance and visibility, the prevailing conditions of art-making, and the process of distribution and display. The impetus of grouping these artists simultaneously underscores the idiosyncratic approach of each, and, in the light of recent federal government policies on the Asia-Pacific, raises a timely debate on the impact of such determinations on the wider arts network, specifically how the artists involved in this project position their own practices, in consideration of the Asian aspect of their background.' - Hiram To, curator.
The three accompanying texts deal with the above issues in greater depth. Brief introduction of the artist is provided.
