This publication is produced on the occasion of the exhibition 'Lying, Standing and Leaning' held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, June-September 2009. This exhibition presents 19 pieces from the museum collection that undermine in various ways the relationships among the space represented by the painting, the flatness of the canvas, and the physical senses of the viewer.
