D'Bayan reviews/interviews Mark Lewis Higgins on the occasion of his new exhibition at the Ayala Museum on view until October 28, 2008.   In mixed media, including gold-leaf, semi-precious stones, fabric and tempera, Higgins portraits are meant to convey a sense of "transnationality."   The portrait series is called "Diaspora" and is the final installment of a trilogy of shows that explore the "history of art and archaeology in the face of dissolving and overlapping borders."  The photo reproductions of his works show that Higgins' modern mummy portraits are inspired by the relics of ancient civilizations.
