This monograph is a retrospective publication on the work of Mohammed Kazem, which was produced on the occasion of the exhibition 'Walking on Water' in the National Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates at the Venice Biennale 2013. Works from 1990 to 2012 by Kazem are featured in this publicaion.

'Some of the key ideas and motifs that we see recurring in Kazem's choices include nature, urban transformation, his environment, the body, and the elements. He is also concerned with providing social commentary, positioning himself subjectively in his work, and creating extended projects that occur slowly over time. In these projects, he is also trying to expose the paradoxes or transformations of elements in nature and his urban environment and between the subjective and objective. Kazem becomes a silent observer and commentator to his surroundings. He watches the urban and material transformations around him, positioning his body as a compass that guides him through the metamorphosis occurring around him.

Kazem's adventurous and open nature wants to be able to cross the borders of everything — be it nature, nations or the physical barrier of things. These gestures indicate his desire to assimilate between various elements, such as technology and nature, the body and urbanity, and urbanity and nature.' - excerpts from Reem Fadda's essay.

Includes an interview by Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi. With artist biography and select bibliography.
