'Taikang Project' is a joint exhibition held at Taikang Top Space in 2006 and is part of an exhibition series 'One Work' curated by Tang Xin. The artwork in the exhibition consists of two parts, a large oil painting and three 'Taikang' life insurance certificates. The painting is an expanded version of Van Gogh's Ward in The Hospital in Arles. It differs from the original masterpiece in that both artists, Hong Hao and Yan Lei, appear in the ward with their heads wrapped in gauze. Next to the painting, the artists pasted original copies of their 700 million yuan Taikang life insurance certificates. Through the purchase of this insurance policy, the artists attempt to comment on issues surrounding the effect of the artistic system on the development of art and artists. Artist biographies are provided in the present catalogue.
