This book is written by Taiwanese curator Huang Chienhong on the interrelationship between space and film, and discusses it by paying special attention to the technique of montage.
By studying a large number of archival documents and reading film footages, the author postulates that montage is not only a technique restricted to film and visual studies, but also in fact a powerful conceptual tool for political, historical, cultural, aesthetic, and cross-disciplinary analyses. Based on montage, the author delivers in-depth readings of specific moving image works and films so as to see how the concepts of time, space and the city have been philosophised, imagined, and critiqued by montage as it is deployed by different moving image practitioners.
