In conjunction with the workshops, lectures and forums organised by the Hong Kong Arts Centre for Xu Bing and Gao Minglu entitled, 'The Position of HK in the Cross-cultural Context of Contemporary Chinese Art', Asia Art Archive presented Gao Minglu's lecture, 'Chinese Avant-Garde and ‘Abstract’ Art'

 

About the speaker

Dr Gao Minglu is an important scholar and historian of cotemporary Chinese art who resides in New York. He graduated from Harvard University and obtained a PhD in 2000. His publications include: Fragmented Memory: The Chinese Avant-Garde in Exile (co-ed), Chinese Avant-Garde Art and The History of Contemporary Chinese Art. He curated the exhibition, 'Inside Out: New Chinese Art', which is a significant review of the art development in the past decades. Currently teaching at University of Buffalo, he has curated Chinese art exhibition in Museum of Mexico, Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, etc.
