This is a quiz on the general knowledge of contemporary art in Hong Kong.

The general knowledge of contemporary art in Hong Kong is not as trivial as you think.

This quiz on the general knowledge of contemporary art in Hong Kong, which is not as trivial as you think, will be better than the usual quizzes you have attended.

Asia Art Archive presents Not as Trivial as You Think: Hong Kong Art Quiz, a public performance by resident C & G  (Clara and Gum)
C & G presented a general knowledge quiz on contemporary art and politics in Hong Kong during Art Basel Hong Kong 2014, including four highly competitive teams comprising artists, art professionals and students, 'fighting it out' during a live event.

Their concern: amidst cries that Hong Kong has no art history, is the information and knowledge on contemporary art in Hong Kong really that trivial? During their AAA residency, C & G searched for information about contemporary art in Hong Kong, digging deep not only into Asia Art Archive’s collection, but also into other resources available throughout the city.

Not as Trivial as You Think: Hong Kong Art Quiz with English Commentary by Samson Young and Alice Wong

The Quiz marked the culmination of this research and was brought to life by way of a showdown amongst four teams of contestants who have accepted the challenge to test their knowledge of the city’s cultural legacy. Artist team leaders Kacey Wong, Leung Mee Ping, and Law Man Lok each formed their own teams. A fourth team was comprised of Asia Art Archive’s youth group PageNEXT, art journalist G Yeung, emerging artist Crystal Wong, and veteran art researcher Phoebe Wong. The Quiz was conducted in Cantonese, with English real-time commentary by sound and performance artist Samson Young.

A parody of the education and examination system in Hong Kong, the Quiz encompassed questions that no one textbook could cover - referencing trivia related to individuals, institutions, mathematics, and even international relations. Contestants’ knowledge of contemporary art and agility of mind (and body) was also put to the test. The Quiz winner was awarded a mysterious grand prize.

C & G also plans to develop an artist book based on answers from the Quiz.
