Asia Art Archive in India, in collaboration with Serendipity Arts Trust and HH Art Spaces, is pleased to present The Ground Beneath My Feet, an exhibition of cutting-edge performance art from around the world, at Serendipity Arts Festival.
Situated on a barge docked at Captain of Ports Jetty on the Mandovi River in Goa, the exhibition explores the rapidly transforming relationship between human bodies, their natural environments, and technological infrastructures.
Barges in Goa transport large cargo of iron ore and minerals across inland waterways and ports as far as the Arabian Sea. Against a backdrop of the corroding history of industrialisation and the reverberating sirens of maritime trade, this exhibition reckons with the turbulent waters of geopolitics today, hinting at the unrealised utopias and dark unknowable pasts. As bodies are hauled along the swelling rivers and rising seas and landscapes appear fragmented, the performance artworks and barge come together in this exhibition to pose the question: what is the ground beneath our feet?
The performance artworks in the exhibition are unique pieces that each of the eight artists have composed and will execute live, in-situ. Vishal K. Dar is the Mise-en-Scene Director of the site.
The Ground Beneath My Feet is part of After Event: Performance Art and its Mediations, a collaboration between Serendipity Arts Trust, HH Art Spaces, and Asia Art Archive in India.

HH Art Spaces is an artist-run residency space established in October 2014 in Siolim, Goa, by Romain Loustau, Madhavi Gore, and Nikhil Chopra. It is part of a movement of artists from the big cities to Goa, offering space, time, an international community, and a critical audience. The programme focuses primarily on live art and performance with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative work.
Serendipity Arts Trust (SAT) is an arts and cultural development trust created to support the arts as a significant contributor to civil society. SAT promotes new creative strategies, artistic interventions, and cultural partnerships to address the social, cultural, and environmental milieu. SAT programmes are designed through interdisciplinarity collaborations across a multitude of fields, using the arts to impact education, social initiatives, and community development programmes, and to better understand the shared histories of the subcontinent.
