'This book was produced in Japan on the occasion of the Young Asian Artists Exhibition held in Tokyo in 1957. It is not, however, in any sense a catalogue of the exhibition, since among the illustrations are considerable numbers of paintings that were not then shown. In general the emphasis has been on new art movements in Asia, but the essays are of great interest in that the specialists who wrote them have shown new movements against the background of old tradition.'
