This volume was published on the occasion of the first Asia-Pacific Triennial, organized by the Queensland Art Gallery to inaugurate a series of contemporary art exhibitions, forums and exchanges. Being the first major publication to focus on the contemporary art of the Asia-Pacific region, the essays presented here demonstrate how varied are the forms of art which have emerged, and examine the many influences affecting the development of contemporary art in the region, such as tradition, past cultural encounters, more recent interactions with the West, and economic and technological changes. Includes bibliography and notes on contributors.
