Welcome to Ideas, Asia Art Archive's new online journal. This is where AAA delivers content that acts as a catalyst for new ideas surrounding contemporary art and art history. With this endeavour, we are building upon our previous journal, Field Notes (2012–16), and newsletter, Diaaalogue (2002–12). The goal is to take advantage of the speed with which we can publish without sacrificing quality, rigour, or depth of thought, while testing the myriad possibilities of the digital realm. If you are looking for our old content, you will discover that much of it is still searcheable on the website through tags.

Over the past year, we have redefined our specific areas of research and programming focus—called content priorities—to drive our work. These content priorities are: art writing, complex geographies, exhibition history, innovation through tradition, pedagogy, performance art, and women in art history. To give you a better understanding of these categories, members of AAA staff had a series of discussions for this publication.

In addition to exploring posts from the Ideas homepage, you may wish to dive into one of the four sections.

Collection Spotlight: curated journeys through AAA's Research and Library Collections

Essayslongform explorations of recent art in Asia, archives, art histories, urgent preoccupations, and other areas of interest

Conversations: discussions with artists, art historians, writers, researchers, curators, and other thinkers in the field

Notes: dispatches, briefs, experiments, image galleries, and travelogues

We look forward to engaging with you.
