Critical Interventions is the third in a series of publications produced by Artspace responding to the Biennale of Sydney. It was initiated in 1998 by Nicholas Tsoutas to address the lack of critical discourse surrounding contemporary art in Australia. A range of critics, curators and theorists are invited to interrogate and engage with the curatorial paradigm informing the exhibition, as well as with the practices of the contributing artists, thinkers and performers.

Two of the lectures given as part of the 2002 Biennale public programs, by Maria Lind and Isabel Carlos, are included in this volume.
