Asia Art Archive (AAA) is seeking a full-time Project Manager and Researcher to support its research and archiving project on Taiwan contemporary art.
AAA is an independent non-profit organisation based in Hong Kong. Since its founding in 2000, AAA has been at the forefront of documenting and redefining the recent histories of contemporary art in Asia. Through dynamic residencies, cutting-edge research, innovative educational programmes, thought-provoking publications, and transformative institutional collaborations, AAA has become the go-to site for art professionals, scholars, educators, artists, and more. With the most extensive and growing collection of materials on contemporary art from Asia, freely accessible online and in its onsite library, AAA serves as an invaluable resource for inspiration and knowledge.
The successful candidate, based in Taipei, will work as an independent contractor under the direct supervision of AAA. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with artists, curators, writers, and other arts professionals to build and make accessible archives and histories relating to Taiwan contemporary art.
The ideal candidate should be an outgoing and organised team player with strong acumen and research skills, detail-oriented, who is also independent and can take initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the operation and administration of AAA’s project, office, and team in Taiwan.
- Identify and develop Research Collections and archives for digitisation, and conducting oral histories where appropriate
- Work with institution partners in Taiwan, such as universities and museums, to develop teaching and professional training activities, exhibitions, and conferences.
- Develop relationships with collaborators such as researchers, curators, artists, and other educational and arts institutions.
Requirements:
- Minimum three years’ experience working in academia (in art history or other relevant disciplines), and/or conducting research in cultural institutions/organisations
- Post-graduate degree in the arts or related disciplines
- Knowledge and understanding of art history of Taiwan, more generally, of East Asia.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn on the job.
- Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese and English is essential.
- Proficiency with office software, including databases.
