During the nineties, when Vietnam experienced a period of renovation and cultural changes with the establishment of a new market economy, the local contemporary art scene also saw a period of innovation and advances. Under this burgeoning expansion in the arts, the existing artistic language and concepts was soon unable to accomodate the increasingly blurred boundaries in artistic disciplines, making it difficult to classify new art into distinct schools, genres and categories. This reference book attempts to evaluate these changes in contemporary Vietnamese art: focusing on style distinction, material and technical development, and tracing Vietnamese Art from traditional artforms to present day installation and performance. Written by art theorist Bui Nhu Huong, and the collector and publisher Tran Hau Tuan.
