This interview is part of Hong Kong Art History Research Project – Phase II, a collaboration between Asia Art Archive and Hong Kong Museum of Art. It was conducted at Kwok Chiu Leung's home on 18 May 2015.

Biography:
Kwok Chiu-leung (b. 1931, Hong Kong)

Kwok Chiu-leung studied painting and art history at London's Ravensbourne College of Art in the 1950s before returning to Hong Kong to join the Grantham Training College, where he developed curricula to train art teachers at primary and secondary schools. From 1971–1991 Kwok was Inspector (General Administration Section) of Private Schools at the Education Department, where he also founded the Art and Crafts Centre, a place for teachers to develop their art and teaching practices.

This interview focuses on Kwok's efforts to gain access to art education through various channels in 1950–60s Hong Kong, and his experience of studying art as a Chinese student in the UK. He also shares his perspective on the interaction between art teachers and other participants of the art ecology, such as artists, critics, and educators at the tertiary level.

Kwok lives in Hong Kong.

Ma Kwai-shun, Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts (1976), an M.Phil. in Fine Arts (1991) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a D.F.A. (Doctor of Fine Arts) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, in 2002. For many years he has been promoting ink painting and drawing through his Art Horizon Workshop in both collaborative studio and curatorial projects. His recent publications include Drawing Duet (2008) and Art of seeing: Drawing and creative expression (2011).

郭樵亮
1931 年生於香港。

郭樵亮於1950年代在倫敦的Ravensbourne College of Art 修畢繪畫及藝術史課程後，回港任教於葛量洪師範專科學校，主理中小學美術科老師培訓課程的制訂工作。他於1971至91年擔任教育署首席督學(一般行政組)，並設立美工中心，讓老師發展他們的美術及教學實踐。

訪問集中探討郭氏在1950至60年代嘗試從香港不同渠道接受藝術教育及其後以華裔留學生身份在英國攻讀藝術的經歷。郭樵亮亦於訪問中，就本地美術老師與藝術家、藝評人及從事大專藝術教育等藝術工作者之間的互動交流，分享個人見解。

馬桂順現為香港教育學院文化與創意藝術學系兼任副教授。他於1976年畢業於香港中文大學藝術系，1991年修畢哲學碩士課程，2002年獲澳洲皇家墨爾本理工大學藝術博士學位。他及後創辦弘藝坊，多年來透過協作形式，參與多個策展項目，積極推動水墨繪畫及素描藝術。近年出版的著作包括：《素描二重奏 ─ 馬桂順 廖少珍作品集》(2008) 及《看的藝術 ─ 素描與創作》(2011)。
