First CCP Annual of Recent Paintings and Sculptures — Exhibition Notes

Writings on the 'First CCP Annual of Recent Paintings and Sculptures' curated by Ray Albano at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Gallery from 18 August - 19 September 1976.

Excerpt from the exhibition notes:
''The CCP Annual of Recent Paintings and Sculptures' was conceived to review the principal tendencies in the local art scene. The exhibition is concerned with each artist's method of working, his system, his credibility, development, growth, and evolution of style. It hopes to establish connections between the artist's manner of working and the visible results.

The 53 works which comprise this major exhibition are an assessment of the continuous art activities of the last couple of years. Variations are visible but common traits are also discernible and classification in schools or styles are possible. The annual shows varied concerns, visual elements in the works, lines, shapes, textures as they are employed by different artists. Most of the works are large and demand 'breathing space,' installation-wise, so that care was taken to properly assemble the exhibition for viewing.

The CCP Annual of Recent Paintings and Sculptures suggest that we are entering a phase when imagination and cost are no longer the principal limitations felt by the creative and mature artist.'
