Photograph of Roberto Chabet's Remembering Scanga-RA.
‘Scanga-RA’ is the pseudonym of artist Ray Albano, Chabet’s former assistant and colleague at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), who became the second curator of the CCP after Chabet resigned in 1970. The name itself referred to Italian-born artist Italo Scanga, who also made sculptures out of found objects. Ray Albano’s metal spring is one of the objects in his 1978 work, Mga Kuwento Ni Scanga-RA, which was included in the exhibition, ‘A Decade of Developmental Art,’ which he curated at the CCP in 1979.
Roberto Chabet's Remembering Scanga-RA is included in 'I Miss the 20th Century,' a group exhibition at Manila Contemporary from 20 August - 11 September 2011. The exhibition is part of 'Roberto Chabet: Fifty Years,' a year-long series of exhibitions organised by King Kong Art Projects Unlimited in various venues in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Manila from 2011 - 2012.
