This folder contains a collection of Hashmi’s paintings from 1970 to 2000, featuring an array of materials including watercolour, pencils, collage, and tempera. Hashmi’s artwork is often politically charged and questions the instability of Pakistan’s political and social circumstances. Among the paintings is an oil on canvas titled Carnival, created after the execution of Pakistan’s 9th Prime Minister and 4th President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Digitised from 35mm photographic slides, these records are the first attempt to collate Hashmi’s work as an artist.

The slide captions, handwritten by Hashmi, are captured in the records as alternative titles.
