This folder contains a collection of Hashmi’s published and unpublished writings, dating mostly from 1981 onwards. They include exhibition reviews; artist profiles; her research on pedagogies in art and design; essays on the preservation, evolution, and polemics of traditional textile design, architecture, and craft; as well as feminist essays about women artists in a historically male-dominated art scene.

Among her writings is a copy of the unpublished “Women Artists Manifesto,” which was written in 1983 at a private gathering of sixteen women artists at Hashmi’s home, and can be read as an act of retaliation against the long-time oppression they endured.
