13 Painters for the 21st Century is one of the projected series of books (Sikat Book's Filipino Eye Series) which focus on the technical and aesthetic ranges, as well as narratives of Filipino art and artists. With all the talented and successful artists in the Philippines today, to come up with only 13 is a daunting task. 'Using thirteen as a motif to feature a more mature group of artists became a challenge for me,' Ana Labrador, editor of Sikat Books Publishing Inc., publisher of the book says in the book's introduction. To narrow down the list, she set criteria: the artists must be living, must be renowned for their body of works, awards and community service, must still be exhibiting and have critical reviews to their name.
