Catalogue of the group exhibition '85 New Wave - the Birth of Chinese Contemporary Art held at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing in 2007. The exhibition is the first retrospective of the '85 New Wave movement in China, which marked the end of a monolithic artistic model, achieved unprecedented freedom and opened a path for Chinese art to march toward internationalization and contemporaneity. The exhibition, featuring works of thirty artists and artist groups, also marked the publication of many previously unpublished documentary materials and manuscripts, allowing the viewer to bear witness to the deeply layered intellectual activity of the period. Includes images of each artist's works accompanied by the artist's biography and short texts.
