This is a monograph of modern Chinese ink painter, Gao Jianfu, who was also the founder of the Lingnan School of painting. Having studied art and art theory in Japan, Gao introduced western techniques into the practice of traditional Chinese ink painting. He believed that the new elements would endow a 'spirit of the age' to Chinese ink painting, and foster a new development in this traditional art form. Gao's oeuvre includes range of subjects, from landscapes, figures and animals to flowers, as illustrated in the works presented here. A chronology of the artist is included.
