This book is developed from the earlier symposium themed 'Active Withdrawal - Weak Institutionalism and the Institutionalization of Art Practice' held during the exhibition 'One Step Forward, Two Steps Back - Us and Institution, Us as Institution' at Times Museum, Guangzhou from June to August 2013. It is part of the 'para-curatorial series' by the Museum. The book begins with a discussion of the limitations of institutional critique, then talks about how institutional values could be upheld in curatorial practice.
