Catalogue published in conjunction with the international exhibition ARS 06 held at Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki from January to August 2006. It is the seventh edition in the ARS series which began in 1961 and features works by 40 artists and collectives from 24 countries. Titled 'Sense of the Real', the exhibition explores fundamental emotions, life experiences and the meaning of art in this day and age. This book takes the reader into zones where good and evil, beautiful and ugly, strange and familiar, joy and grief mingle and flow into each other. The artists are presented in essays that shed light on the works themselves and their themes. Details of the ARS 06 programme consisting of theatre shows, performances, art projects, workshops and educational programmes are provided at the back of the catalogue.
