This book is published in conjunction with the 6th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, curated by Austrian curator Kathrin Rhomberg and held from June to August 2010 at various locations in Berlin.

'What is waiting out there' is the Berlin Biennale's 2010 theme. It stands for the artistic wrestle with reality and the attempt to use art to formulate unusual questions that deal with current economic and social conditions and their significance for the individual.

An exhibition with works by Adolph Menzel (1815–1905) is also presented at the Biennial. It is curated – at the invitation of Kathrin Rhomberg – by the American art historian Michael Fried in cooperation with the Alte Nationalgalerie/Old National Gallery and the Kupferstichkabinett/Museum of Prints and Drawings of the National Museums in Berlin.

Lists of works and texts on all participating artists are provided in the catalogue.
Please note that only participating artists of Asian descent are listed below.
