This is the monograph of paintings by Chen Lusheng. An advocate of ‘New Literati Painting’, Chen in his work shows a combination of techniques inherited from the literati tradition of Ming and Qing landscape paintings and learned through his study of design in arts and crafts. The artist has said that he would like his paintings to be appreciated as a pleasure to the eyes and mind, rather than as a carrier of social critiques. The preface of this monograph is written by Lang Shaojun, a renowned scholar on modern Chinese art history. A biography of the artist, a selected bibliography and a summary of commentaries written by art critics are also included.
