This publication is produced in occasion of the group exhibition 'Dansaekhwa' at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea, from March to May 2012. Featuring 17 Korean artists, this exhibition showcases Korean monochrome paintings which appeared in the contemporary art scene from the ninety-seventies. In this gesture, the exhibition also traces the history of this particularly type of painting from its embryonic period in the 1970s to its development over the past 40 years within a broader historical framework of contemporary Korean art.

Includes an essay by the guest curator, an interview with artist Lee U-Fan, plates for each artist with explanatory text, and artists' biographies.
